H.E Ieng Mouly Senior Minister in Charge of Special Mission and Chair NAA presided over the celebration of the 104th Anniversary of International Women Right Day 2015

On the morning of March 5, 2015, H.E Ieng Mouly Senior Minister in Charge of Special Mission and Chair of the National AIDS Authority (NAA) and his Spouse presided over the celebration of the 104th Anniversary of International Women Day at NAA’s head office.

Also participating in the ceremony were Her Excellency Vice Chair of the NAA, H.E Secretary of State of the Ministry of Women Affairs, a Representative of UNWOMEN, T.E NAA Advisors, Deputy Chairs, Secretary General, Deputy Secretary Generals, Directors and Deputy Directors of Departments and all NAA officials.

A welcome speech was followed by a report on activities and performance of gender sensitization into the HIV/AIDS response; addresses by the representative of UNWOMEN,  and the Ministry of Women Affairs;  and a highly valued royal message from Her Majesty Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk. H.E Ieng Mouly, Senior Minister, reminded the guests about the meaning and message of International Women Day which is celebrated and dedicated  to the abolition of all forms of discrimination against women. It also grants social, political and economic rights equally to men and general citizens. For Cambodia, we have ratified CEDAW and take part in implementing the convention and promoting the basic Rights of Women. We have formulated policies and carried out program activities to enhance Women and Gender development. This year the highlighted subject has been equity in education, which is important in the social development efforts and  highly valuable statements of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Paddey Techo Hun Sen that women are the backbone of development.

Regarding the issues and challenges faced by women and children who are affected by HIV, the NAA has formulated policies and program activities which have helped women to have access to medical treatment,  care, and social, psychological and economic support.  We have focused on the prevention of HIV transmission, the prevention of transmission from husband to wife and mother to child, and preventing transmission among and from  entertainment workers .

Even though we have paid attention and care to promote women's Rights through our policies and program activities, we also need to apply them in our daily life both in the  office and at home. H.E Senior Minister also reminded all partcipants to support and give appropriate opportunity and work to women so that we could better contribute and promote women's Rights in the workplace, at home, in society and nationwide.

Finally H.E Senior Minister offered flowers and distributed souvenirs to Her Excellency Vice Chair of NAA, distinguished women guests and female participants of the ceremony and he invited all participants to a luncheon.
