A meeting was held by Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of National AIDS Authority (NAA) and Chair of Cambodia Coordinating Committee of the Global Fund with Dr. Suvanand Sahu, Deputy Executive Director of Geneva-based UNOPS Administered Stop TB Partnership, Dr. Thomas Chiang, TB Senior Technical Advisor, USAID Global Health Fellow Program II, Washington DC, and Dr. Nop Sotheara, Development Assistance Specialist for Infectious Diseases, USAID Cambodia, at the NAA Headquarters in the afternoon of August 26, 2015. After the welcoming formality, Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, briefed his guests of the general AIDS situation, the successful submission by Cambodia of four Concept Notes to the Global Fund in a single year, and the situation concerning funding for the fight against HIV/AIDS in Cambodia. Dr. Sahu congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia for its audacious efforts in contributing financially to the budget of HIV program. In fact, the Royal Government contributed US$1 Million in 2015 to purchase medicines for HIV patients. Additional US$1.2 Million for 2016 and US$1.5 Million for 2017 have been earmarked by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Dr. Sahu praised the leadership of the Senior Minister and sought his advice an support to advocate the same government initiative for the Tuberculosis program. Senior Minister Ieng Mouly replied that Tuberculosis is not in his area of responsibility but he is ready to give a helping hand. Therefore, he suggested that a bridging plan has to come out from the Ministry of Health, especially the Head of Tuberculosis program.
