H.E Senior Minister Ieng Mouly receives UNAIDS Country Director to Cambodia
In the afternoon of Thursday, October 24th, 2024, starting at 2:00 PM, H.E Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, received a working meeting with Ms. Patricia Ongpin, UNAIDS Country Director to Cambodia. The meeting was also attended by H.E Vice Chair, the Secretary General, the Chief of the Cabinet and the advisor of UNAIDS.
In his welcoming remarks, the Senior Minister informed the guests about visits to hospitals in Sras Keov and Chanthaburi provinces of Thailand and meetings in Banteay Meanchey and Pailin provinces in early October. The Senior Minister confirmed that the technical working group will discuss in detail with the Thai side to prepare a memorandum of understanding to provide AIDS services to Cambodian workers in Thailand.
The UNAIDS Director then congratulated the National AIDS Authority under the guidance of the Senior Minister and mentioned the technical assistance that UNAIDS is assisting the authorities, including support in providing technical advice on: 1- The GDJ working group, 2- The prevention evaluation and 3- Community, Rights and Gender. At the same time, she also mentioned: 1- Organizing the GDJ working group 2- Attending the 55th Meeting of the UNAAD Coordinating Council and the visit of the Executive Director of UNAID in Cambodia. Regarding Cambodia's membership in the UNAIDS Coordinating Council, she appreciated Cambodia for its readiness and read the ASEAN Declaration at the 54th ASEAN Summit, which was unprecedented among Asian countries.
In response, the Senior Minister decided to co-organize a GDJ meeting on December 2nd, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Senior Minister will lead a delegation to attend the 55th Meeting of the UNAIDS Coordinating Council in Nairobi, Kenya in the second week of December. As for the visit plan of the UNAIDS Executive Director, both parties agree that it should be taken place in May 2025.
Before concluding, Patricia Ongpin stressed that Cambodia has left a legacy for the UNAIDS Coordinating Council, leading the way in setting trends for successors.
