H.E Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, led an inter-ministerial delegation including the National AIDS Authority and the Ministry of Health to visit Pong Nam Ron Hospital, which provides AIDS services in Chanthaburi, Thailand.

On the morning of Friday, October 11st, 2024, H.E Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, led an inter-ministerial delegation including the NAA and the Ministry of Health visited Pong Nam Ron Hospital, which provides AIDS services in Chanthaburi, Thailand. Accompanying the delegation were His Excellency the Consul General of Cambodia to Thailand, His Excellency the Deputy Governor and Director of Pailin Provincial Health Department, Deputy District Governor, representatives of civil society organizations working on HIV/AIDS and leaders of the National AIDS Authority.

The Thai side welcomed the delegation, including H.E Monsit Paisarntanawat, Governor of Chanthaburi Province, Director of Chanthaburi Provincial Health Department, Director of Phong Naron Hospital, Office of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases and HIV/AIDS, Ministry of Health, and representatives of civil society organizations working on AIDS too.

In his welcoming remarks, H.E Governor of Chanthaburi Province emphasized that this meeting is an opportunity to strengthen and develop the health sector between the two countries, which can help solve the problem of AIDS. In that, we may develop health guidelines and control infectious diseases among workers as well.

Speaking to the Thai side, the Senior Minister informed that there are an estimated 76,000 people living with HIV in Cambodia. Of these, 68,000 were receiving HIV/AIDS care services. As a result, about 8,000 people living with HIV are missed from the system, which can be treated at a private hospital or as a migrant. The Senior Minister further emphasized that this visit is a study to explore to pave the way for cooperation to control the spread of HIV among Cambodian workers who cross the border and are working in Thailand. In the future, Cambodian technical officers will discuss in detail with the Thai side, which could lead to the signing of a memorandum of understanding for Cambodian workers to be tested and treated at any hospital in Thailand.
