NAA Chair Meets WHO Representative

On January 10, 2014, at NAA headquarters, at 14:00, Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority (NAA) met Dr. Pieter Van Maaren, WHO Representative to Cambodia for a courtesy call after the NAA Chair’s official appointment in October 2013. The NAA Chair, after welcoming the Representative visit, informed the latter of the seven point policy directives of the Royal Government dated December 17, 2013. One of those points stated that the NAA has leading roles on aid effectiveness and bears the responsibility for a nationwide HIV and AIDS response. To improve the collaboration between key stakeholders, the Royal Government agreed to restructure the leadership of NAA whereby the Minister of Health has been appointed as the 1st Vice Chair of NAA. For his part, Dr. Pieter Van Maaren informed the NAA Chair that the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund is in the process of renewing its membership and chairmanship for 2014-2015 term. The WHO Representative stressed that the Royal Government should play the leading role in this mechanism to oversee the grant implementation for HIV and AIDS response in Cambodia. The NAA Chair highlighted the lesson learned from ICAAP11 that innovation should be applied in the leadership and the management of HIV and AIDS response in Cambodia. “Not business as usual” should be the motto for enhancing mutual accountable for the results, the effectiveness and the efficiency of the response.
