
World AIDS Day celebration have been conducted every year on 1 December. The aim of this day is not only for the purpose of engaging with the whole world, it is a day that reflects the attention of the Royal Government of Cambodia to the general Cambodian people who have suffered from HIV / AIDS during the past three decades due to the spread of HIV/AIDS. The day also showcased multi-faceted solidarity from all stakeholders in the country such as national and private institutions, development donors, non-governmental organizations, youth, high-risk groups, associations and a network of people living with HIV to work together in the past until nowadays in order to achieve the target of 95-95-95 by 2025.
Currently, the HIV prevalence rate in Cambodia among the general population between the ages of 15 and 45 is about 0.6 in 2021, with an estimated 74,000 people living with HIV/AIDS with incident rate 1,100 in 2022. As the results, by the end of the second quarter 2022 indicates that 84% of people living with HIV know their HIV status , 99% of people who know their status are receiving treatment and 97% of people on HIV treatment have a suppressed viral load so their immune system remains strong and the likelihood of their infection being passed on is greatly reduce. High-risk group prevalence rate : entertainment workers : 4.9 % (IBBS 2021), IDU : 5.7 % (IBBS 2017), PWID/ PWUD: 15.2 % (IBBS 2017), MSM : 4 % (IBBS 2019), Female transgender 9.6 % (IBBS 2016).
World AIDS Day, December 1, 2022, is being held at the Chaktomuk Conference Hall presided over by His Excellency General Ke Kim Yan, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, High Representative Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, with participants including His Excellency, Lok Chumteav, Members of the Senate, National Assembly, Members of the Royal Government, Leaders of Ministries, Institutions, Ambassadors, Ambassadors, Representatives of the United Nations Ambassador on AIDS in Cambodia, Ladies and Gentlemen from government institutions, civil society organizations, HIV / AIDS networks, key citizen networks, national and international guests, volunteer youth associations, artists, with a total 500 . On this occasion, there are booths of IEC educational materials of various civil society as well.
