On Wednesday, November 30th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Senior Minister and Chair of the National AIDS Authority, accompanied by H.E. Tea Phalla , Vice Chair of the National AIDS Authority, attended a Video Conference on the Asia-Pacific AIDS Report 2022, focusing on "Dangerous Inequalities" as well as the regional launch from the World AIDS Day Report by UNAIDS.
Senior Minister Ieng Mouly responded to the questions related to sustainable local financing for HIV / AIDS prevention:
How has Cambodia invested in prevention programs with equity and what are the benefits?
- Cambodia has made significant progress towards ending HIV/AIDS, likely not yet
- Achieving the first 95% goals, since only 84% of the goals have been achieved. The reasons behind this are:
1) The last two years, Cambodia has been affected by the covid-19 epidemic.
2) The level of effort to develop preventive programs for high-risk population is still insufficient to reduce the number of new infections, which is less than or equal to 365 new cases each year.
3) Investment in prevention program is limited.
