Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, held a working meeting with Dentist Doctor Ms. Vladanka Andreeva and Mr. Ung Polin, respectively UNAIDS country director and community support adviser in the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the morning of April 1, 2021. Taking part in the meeting were the Authority’s top managers, including Their Excellencies Tia Phalla, Ros Seilavath, Chhim Khindareth, and Sut Thangphann.
The discussion centered on the following topics:
1) Preparations for the participation in the 2021 high-level AIDS meeting
The UN General Assembly will convene a high-level HIV meeting on 8-10 June 2021 to be coordinated by the UNAIDS and attended by country member governments; representatives of civil society organizations and communities, and the other partners from all over the world, including from the Asia-Pacific region.
Dentist Doctor Ms. Vladanka Andreeva discussed with His Excellency the Senior Minister, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, preparations for the high-level HIV meeting by means of organizing national-level consultative meetings with relevant partners in Cambodia and arranging for a national-level delegation to take part in the high-level meeting. Replying to Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, His Excellency the Senior Minister said that the NAA would make coordination and arrangement after receiving information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and that he would consult with Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen and request his recommendations.
At the high-level HIV meeting, there will be adoption of an announcement of the new HIV policy.
All previous high-level HIV meetings and announcements of various related policies had positive impact on the HIV response in the Asia-Pacific region. They also constituted important means for global solidarity and for keeping the HIV issue on the international agenda.
2) Feasibility on offering COVID-19 vaccinations to HIV service providers and people living with HIV: World Health Organization recommends that COVID-19 vaccination is vitally important for COVID-19 prevention. However, there is still yet no specific guideline on the COVID-19 vaccination for people living with HIV. As regards HIV service providers, we encourage the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Dermatology, and STD and the Ministry of Health to consider.
At the end, His Excellency the Senior Minister said the National AIDS Authority is pleased to cooperate and ready to participate in the high-level global HIV meeting. He also concurred with the suggestion to convene the national-level consultative meeting on April 19, 2021, and he instructed Their Excellencies Tia Phalla, Ros Seilavath, and Chhim Khindareth, and Mr. Ung Polin to discuss the formalities and procedures for this consultative meeting process.
