
Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, held a working meeting with Dr. Vladanka Andreeva, UNAIDS Country Director to Kingdom of Cambodia, and Mr. Ung Polin, technical assistant, with the participation of the authority’s top managers, including Their Excellencies Tia Phalla, Ros Seilavath, Chhim Khin Dareth, and Sut Thangphann on the afternoon of January 20, 2020.
The discussion centered on the preparations for the coming visit by the members of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board to inspect the AIDS situation and the response progress in Cambodia scheduled for February 17 to 21, 2020 (including exchanges of updated information on the progress of communities’ sustainable participation and their challenges in the provision of AIDS response services.
The delegation also plans to hold working meetings with His Excellency the Senior Minister, Chair of the National AIDS Authority; His Excellency the Minister of Health; and His Excellency the Deputy Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance as well as representatives of development partners, nongovernmental organizations, and communities. The discussions will focus on a number of important points: 1) HIV epidemics situation in Cambodia, 2) roles and duties of the National AIDS Authority, 3) experiences, priority opportunities, and obstacles to response, and perspective on the solid cooperation with all partners, enabling Cambodia to achieve successfully the 90-90-90 targets, 4) the launching of the implementation of the new methodologies, such as HIV self-testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and 5) roles of communities in the prevention, treatment, and health care services.
Moreover, the delegation will make direct inspections of the work activities at Chhouk Sor Clinic, which focuses on the needs of affected communities, and at the AIDS clinic of the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital to seek understanding of the background of the prevention-treatment work and financial obstacles. It will also meet with development partners at various embassies, nongovernmental organizations in Cambodia, and, especially, KHANA and community representatives.
His Excellency the Senior Minister also recalled the city initiative plan to fast track ending the spread of HIV. In her reply, Madam Doctor said she would track the activities of those provinces and cities.
Lastly, His Excellency the Senior Minister said that the National AIDS Authority concurred to cooperate and was ready to take part in greeting the visit of the delegation.
