We Need to Safeguard Peace and Preserve Solidarity Under Samdech Techo’s Leadership
Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority and Head of the Central Working Group Assisting Basedth District, presided over a meeting to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the January 7 Victory (07/01/1979-07/01/2020) at the Cambodian People's Party office at the district’s Kat Phluk commune on the morning of January 12, 2020. Excellencies, Lok Chumteavs, ladies, gentlemen, and misses, the heads and deputy heads, and members of the working group, as well as circa 250 authorities, villagers, and students of the commune joined the meeting.
After the meeting program announcement, the meeting presidency listened to: 1) the speech delivered by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister and President of the Cambodian People's Party, at the meeting to mark the 41st anniversary of the January 7 Victory Day, 2) impressions voiced and allegiance pledged by Kat Phluk Commune Chief Um Monorom, representative of the meeting, and 3) a report presented by the teacher, Ms. Norn Long Nich, on the English language training at the Party’s commune office. After that, His Excellency Dr. Heng Sok Kong, member of the CPP Central Committee and first deputy head of the working group assisting Basedth District: 1) spoke of the process of building foundation for Cambodia’s future by 3Cs (Cambodianness, Competency, and Compassionate) at His Excellency Hun Many’s initiative, 2) recalled the sufferings experienced by the people during the Pol Pot regime, and 3) major achievements in Kampong Speu Province.
Addressing the meeting, Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly said Samdech Techo led the country to liberate us from the Pol Pot regime in the past. Without Samdech Techo leading the liberation troops, perhaps we could no longer survive. Now, as we are happy thanks to peace, we thank you, peace. If there had been no leader like Samdech Techo Hun Sen, we would still have protracted war. Now, we have no longer had conflict with the neighboring countries. We do business together for growth. Thanks to peace and development, previously two hours were needed to travel by road from Slap Leng market to the Party’s commune office, now it takes not even half an hour. We also have electricity and tap water for use. Therefore, we have to support Samdech Techo and the CPP to enable our country to develop further. We also have to maintain social order for the sake of keeping peace. We should not allow ourselves to be led down the garden path by joining the movement aiming at toppling the Royal Government. We should join forces to preserve our country firmly by not letting it be controlled by any foreigners. We should also bind together to defend our territorial integrity and national independence.
Before concluding, His Excellency the Senior Minister advised all the people and students present to be cautious about drugs. According to the current data, drugs have caused the HIV infection rate to recur. Hence, to protect HIV from being transmitted, we must use condoms, and if there is suspicion of HIV infection, blood test should be done to attest. Moreover, if the virus is present, treatment should be sought. As regards the environmental issue, we all should join in managing and collecting trash to allow environment to remain clean and before leaving meetings, we should gather rubbish as well. For road traffic, it is also important. Currently, the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents is greater than by diseases. All of us should learn and observe traffic laws.
At the end, His Excellency the Senior Minister pointed out to the meeting that we are celebrating the January 7 Victory Day to commemorate the liberation of life. While thanking you, peace, we have to unite to maintain Cambodia’s sovereignty and independence, and we have to safeguard peace and preserve solidarity under Samdech Techo’s leadership for the sake of the ongoing peace and development.
