Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority and head of the Central Working Group assisting Basedth District, presided over a meeting to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland (December 2 1978-December 2, 2019), at the office of the Cambodian People's Party in Basedth District on the morning of Sunday, December 8, 2019.
Taking part in this meeting were Excellencies, Lok Chumteavs, ladies, and gentlemen, the heads, deputy heads, and members of the working groups assisting the district and communes, of the District Council, and of the District Party Committee. Also attending the event were the chiefs of the communes, the presidents of the Commune Party Committees, deputy chiefs of communes, officials of commune administrative posts, teachers, armed forces, scouts, and young members of the Cambodian Youth Federation and of the Cambodian Red Cross.
After the acting district party president read the speech of Samdech Akkeak Moha Ponhea Chakkrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly and honorary President of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland and following the pledge undertaken by the youth, Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly stated that January 7 and October 23, 1991, came into existence thanks to January 7. The merit of the December 2 leaders was that they did not care about their deaths, using their lives as wherewithal. He added that in the Pol Pot era, there were only plain rice congee and miserable livelihoods but no rights and freedom whatsoever. If people were wrong, they would be executed summarily. If struggle was talked about, it was more difficult, because we had no food supplies and forces. Nevertheless, we were lucky, for we had the three Samdechs resolutely leading the national liberation movement.
If the Pol Pot clique was listened to, every single word they uttered was about patriotism, as now does the former National Rescue Party. What motivated them to dissolve old society? Those who shout that they profoundly love the nation are doing everything to destroy the nation for power only. As we have already witnessed, the oppositionist band is going around telling Europe to cut off EBA (Everything But Arms) to Cambodia. This is tantamount that they are bent on breaking up the Cambodian citizens’ cooking pots. The EBA issue has clearly revealed the treacherous nature of the opposition, which craves to have major nations bringing pressure to bear on Cambodia.
His Excellency the Senior Minister asserted that the Royal Government has managed to thwart completely the November 9 coup d’état schemed by Sam Rainsy and his cronies. They are incapable of leading, devoid of supporters, and routed beyond words. Now, it is about the Kem Sokha issue. He himself shouted that he was advised to topple the regime, but instead he accused the Royal Government of meting out punishment to suppress rights and freedom and do away with democracy.
He added that the Paris Accords has enabled us to possess the Constitution and liberal multiparty democracy and to hold elections regularly every five years. However, in the wake of the 1993 election, we did not fully enjoy peace, because the Khmer Rouge refused to take part in the election but carry on with war to demand power sharing. The Khmer Rouge was skeptical of the election. Nonetheless, in the end, on December 29, 1998, we have achieved full peace to this day.
At that time, Khmer Rouge leaders switched allegiance to the Royal Government. Thank to peace, we have development. Into the future, there is only development, allowing our livelihood to be better off. If Basedth District is talked about, according to the acting district party chief’s report, we have more than 30.000 workers. Moreover, one of the three factories that we have created may have approximately 6.000 workers. As such, millions of dollars in salaries earned by workers flow in Basedth District each month.
At the end, His Excellency the Senior Minister advised, we must continue supporting the Cambodian People's Party. There is only the Cambodian People's Party, which defends the nation and has the ability to lead. We must continue rendering support to the party that protect and serve the people and provide them with public services. We must avoid harming the people’s interests and causing difficulties to them by trying to do good deeds further. Officials should ready themselves to serve the people. If we serve the people well, the Cambodian People's Party will continue to hold power for a long long time.
