
Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, held a working with Dr. Vladanka Andreeva, Country Director UNAIDS Cambodia, at the National AIDS Authority Headquarters on the morning of November 26, 2019.
His Excellency the Senior Minister and the country director UNAIDS Cambodia discussed and exchanged information on the AIDS progress and update.
He recalled that the National AIDS Authority has strong desire and will to strenuously and clearly join HIV carriers, affected people, and civil society organizations in spurring us to be able to fight and control HIV epidemic. He stressed on the three pillars of our success: 1) Leadership and Ownership, 2) Partnership, and 3) Investment.
As for Dr. Vladanka Andreeva, she raised the following points:
1) There is cooperation on planned urban initiative to end the fast track cities HIV epidemic, whose implementation will start in key cities such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey. In addition, the four cities should prepare an agreement of memorandum on the implementation of the fast-track end of HIV epidemic during the participation in the meeting in Phnom Penh. Various expenses will be incurred by the UNAIDS.
2) The meeting on Francophone countries will be held at Phnom Penh Sokha Hotel on November 2, 2019 and attended by 300 participants from around the world. It will focus importantly on the countries’ specific measures towards reaching the targets from 2020 to 2025 and determining challenges facing each country in the delivery of services to respond to the fight against AIDS, including the provision of funds to allow communities to participate and have sustainability. In addition, there should be political solutions and requirement of relevant technical assistants to become involved in each program.
She also requested that study visits be paid to HIV clinics providing HIV testing, treatment, and counselling to HIV carriers, especially in Takeo Province.
In his reply, His Excellency the Senior Minister said, the National AIDS Authority has agreed to cooperate actively and had high potential mechanisms to implement obligations with ministries, institutions, and varied partnership organizations.
