Basedth: Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority and head of the Central Working Group assisting Basedth District, presided over the opening of the 33rd political course at the Cambodian People's Party office in the district on the morning of October 26, 2019.
In attendance at the event were His Excellency Yim Sokhom, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent president of the Provincial Party Committee, and president of the Kampong Speu Provincial Council as well as Excellencies and gentlemen, the heads, deputy heads, and members of the working group assisting the district and communes, Basedth District’s Party Committee, and 120 trainees.
Following a report presented by the acting president of the District Party Committee, in his remarks, His Excellency the Senior Minister congratulated the trainees attending the political course. He pointed out that all the 120 trainees are our Party’s militants, whose understanding the Party’s history will lead them to the knowledge of the story of its efforts and struggle.
Moreover, His Excellency the Senior Minister stressed that our Party has embraced the aim of further holding long-term power, which is based on the people’s support, serving their interests, abiding by the rule of law, and maintaining peace and development. We serve the people by building safety and peace, but never permitting turmoil and public disorder.
He also stressed that without peace, one must not talk about human rights, democracy, and development. In addition, we do not talk about turning our border into a border of peace and development either. The best way is to maintain harmonization with the neighboring countries. We build a border of economic development and good neighborliness. The Royal Government has bent over backwards in demarcating the actual borders to ward off violations by neighboring countries. We have already planted 84% of the border markers with Vietnam. And as Cambodia and Vietnam have recognized the 84%, so we need to negotiate and continue with the remainder of 16%.
His Excellency the Senior Minister went on to say that our country currently adopts the constitutional monarchy, with the King reigns but does not have power. His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni has a great many humanitarian works to perform, and he does not meddle in politics. He represents sovereignty and not gets involved in political affairs.
Sam Rainsy did not respect the Constitution and the law in effect by insulting the King and urging people to surround village chiefs’ residences and police stations. So, we have seen that Sam Rainsy’s miscalculation leads him to adhere to wrong policy, consisting of: 1) before he claimed that Cambodia was Vietnam, but now he says it is China, 2) he says those having power abuse and oppress the people, and 3) he says Cambodia has become poor and poorer. As all of us have already been aware, no regime in the world can survive without popular support. Moreover, if poverty is talked about, we all were poor in 1979, but now we have 30 metric tons of gold being kept safe overseas. The opposition has also used the bank debt issue to claim that it is poverty. Nevertheless, the United States owes the most money in the world, while Singapore in ASEAN.
Before concluding, His Excellency the Senior Minister said that only two options are still left for the opposition: 1) to walk along the democratic path, with its leadership being able to request political rights and take part in elections, or 2) to act as Sam Rainsy (perpetrating maneuver to topple the legitimate Royal Government) that leads to their being shackled and thrown in jail, no matter what.
At the end, he stressed that the measures taken by the Royal Government to deal with the coup attempt is justified. Therefore, those who are led astray are asked to return to the fold and make confession to be acquitted.
