Outcome of Global Fund’s Replenishment Conference Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly Attended in Lyon of France on October 9-10, 2019

The outcome of the Global Fund’s Sixth Replenishment Conference held in Lyon, France, on October 9-10, 2019, that Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, attended as the high representative of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen was announced on the second day of the conference.

At the conference starting at 9 a.m., French President His Excellency Emanuel Macron spoke of the global efforts to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. He then asked all the countries present at the conference to contribute $14 billion as planned. He emphasized that should we fail to raise the 14 billion dollars, nobody would be allowed to leave the meeting.

The conference proceeded, without recess, until 3.30 p.m.

Announcing the total of the raised funds, His Excellency the French President said $13.8 billion have been collected. That is, it is still short of $200 million. Afterward, Mr. Bill Gates pledged to add $60 million while the French President offered another $60 million.

After the conference closing, Mr. Bill Gates and the famous singer, Mr. Bono, decided to help with $100 million. Finally, the outcome was that this conference succeeded with pledges of $14.02 billion. Among them, the major donor countries and philanthropists are as follows:

1. The United States pledged $4.680 billion;
2. Great Britain $1.716 billion;
3. France $1.429 billion;
4. Germany $1.102 billion;
5. Japan $840 million;
6. Mr. Bill Gates $760 million;
7. Canada $699 million, and
9. European Union $606 million.
