Senior Minister Ieng Mouly presided over a workshop on multi-sector HIV/AIDS response in Svay Rieng Province

At a workshop on HIV/AIDS multisectoral response was organized by Svay Rieng Province AIDS Committee in the second half of 2019, H.E. Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, has said that the number of AIDS-infected people in the province has declined.

Speaking on the afternoon of August 13, 2019, H.E. Senior Minister Ieng Mouly went on to state that even though the rate of AIDS-infected has decreased, it should not be underestimated. Therefore, all relevant officials have to keep intensifying AIDS-fighting activity, with a view to jointly achieving the 95-95-95 national target in 2020 towards completely wiping out new infections in 2025-2030.

The Senior Minister also commended the AIDS Committee and all relevant entities in the province for their lively participation in undertaking the task and activity in fighting against, bringing down the disease rate.

In the response to and prevention of AIDS as well as in the care treatment provided to AIDS patients in the first half of 2019, of the 12,822 clients receiving HIV blood test, 33 cases were found positive and 33 sent to have antiretroviral therapy. Ninety percent of the 1,395 active AIDS patients in total are receiving antiretroviral therapy, including 99%, or 1,393 patients with low viral load, 15 deaths and five giving up treatment.

He emphasized that the province has managed 1,327 AIDS patients of the provincial HIV-infected people network, including 235 families having equity fund cards. He added that there were some challenges, such as HIV carriers and AIDS patients who are poor having no sufficient time to have checkup because of migration to seek work abroad and a number of partner organizations reducing their subsidies year after year, leading to fund shortage for the comprehensive performance of activities.
