H.E. Senior Minister Ieng Mouly led first meeting of Government working group for assisting the district of Basedth, Kampong Speu Province

The first meeting of the Government working group assisting the district of Basedth was held under the presidency of Senior Minister His Excellency Ieng Mouly, head of the government-working group assisting Basedth District, at the district office on the morning of July 25, 2019.

About 100 people took part in the gathering. They included Excellencies, ladies, and gentlemen, the leading managers of the National AIDS Authority; deputy Basedth district governor, and chiefs of expert offices, communes, villages, armed forces, and administrative posts throughout the district.

The meeting was organized to strengthen the local authorities’ tasks and listen to their challenges as well as seeking understanding of the works left behind from the previous to be carry on under this mandate.

Following the welcoming speech given by deputy governor of Basedth, Mr. Sau Rith, His Excellency the Senior Minister permitted the commune chiefs to present their reports. Fourteen of the 15 commune chiefs recounted the issues of development, security, and public order in their localities as well as problems encountered requesting solutions. Overall, there were many infrastructural developments in every commune.

As for challenges encountered in the localities, they included the issues pertaining to birth, marriage, and death certificates, ID card, environment, road, electricity, water resources, and traffic accident.

To seek solutions, His Excellency the Senior Minister permitted the deputy district governor and the heads of the administrative, district, labor and vocational training, and water resources offices to take the floor to offer clarifications in order to join hands in search for solutions.

Summing up the meeting, His Excellency the Senior Minister said that after listening to the reports, we are able to grab the problems in the communes. Hence, we will hold discussions with commune working groups to find solutions for the citizens. As regards the environmental issue, pig farms are in shortage of packaging. Therefore, our officials should try to resolve it. The environment, agriculture, and district offices should inspect those farms to see whether they have operated legally to the law and ask them to make improvement. As for the issues of water resources, road, and electricity, we should get in touch with the province’s authorities to confirm when those projects will be implemented.

Besides, regarding the birth, marriage, and death certificate issue, we are aware that there still lack of a great deal of formalities. In addition, for the traffic accident issue, entertainment programs should be organized to gather the participation of the youth who will then be educated about road traffic safety.

At the end, His Excellency the Senior Minister emphatically asked the meeting participants to have faith in the Royal Government. The government, led by the Cambodian People's Party, nurtures the goal of holding power for a long time. As such, our officials have to exert efforts to fast-track resolving the people’s requests.

Moreover, he said that the oppositionist clique could never come back to life. Now, they have two options only: 1) to join hands to promote democracy by taking part in elections and 2) to team up with the rebels who will be subjected to suppression. If chaos were fomented, we would resort to crackdown to thwart it at all costs, and if they acted unlawfully, we would apply the law in order to subdue them in a flash.
