(Kampong Speu): Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority and head of the Royal Government’s National Working Group assisting Basedth District, has stated that the Cambodian People's Party’s continued win and leadership constitute the need to ensure peace and development of Cambodia, which has incessantly experienced the threatening fire of war from one to another generation.
Senior Minister Ieng Mouly made the remarks while presiding over a get-together, with the councilors of Basedth District’s 15 communes, held on the morning of 20 April at the headquarters of the Cambodian People's Party in the district in a move towards the elections of the third-mandate district and provincial councilors.
In attendance at the meeting were Bin Sareth, senior National Assembly adviser and first deputy head of the working group assisting Basedth District; Kong Rotha, permanent vice chair of the National AIDS Authority; heads and deputy heads of the working groups assisting communes, and ladies and gentlemen, the 96 members of the districts’ 15 commune councils.
Speaking to the 96 councilors of the 15 communes to take part in the elections of the provincial and district council members, the Senior Minister said, we need the Cambodian People's Party to win and lead, because this is a must to ensure peace and development. Given history over the past 500 years, we encountered war ceaselessly. In the era of Sangkum Reas Niyum, there had been peace for 15 years. After that, Lon Nol, who toppled Sangkum Reas Niyum regime and ascended to power for five years, was overthrown by Pol Pot, who then came to power for just three years, eight months, and 20 days.
Thus far, we have enjoyed peace for more than 20 years since 1998. People are free to move about everywhere thanks to bountiful peace, which is the basis of development. Without the Cambodian People's Party, there would have been no peace and development as at present. Chinese investors also want to invest billions of dollars in our Kampong Speu Province. Owing to the fact that we have peace, they want to continue to invest. As Kampong Speu Province still abounds with potentials, we need to strengthen the role of peace. Thanks to peace, we are able to move towards becoming an upper-middle income country by 2030.
If development is talked about, we should recall that we started from naught in 1979, when all of us were poor and no one was wealthy. Some people say that we are in debt, but actually more developing countries, too, are still in debt or owing money, according to experiences from developed countries worldwide. We have to safeguard peace in order to move towards further development. The Cambodian People's Party remains with the people and shares weal and woe with them. We joyfully celebrated the New Year lately. The Cambodian People's Party being in power is the continued preservation of peace, order, and development.
Now, Sam Rainsy is in Korea raising funds, and he declares that he will travel to Cambodia. If he really comes, we have to usher him into prison. The opposition, which plays the politics of division and painting and makes wrong assessment, is not supported by the people. If our present-day Cambodia were said to be in conflict, it should be looked at whether the Constitution has already been abided by and human rights respected. Samdech Decho already tried to build all kind of good things towards the opposition. However, they are still devoid of the idea of building solidarity and strengthening unity, but only toppling our regime.
The Senior Minister went on to day that the opposition pins their hope on the EBA. However, it is wrong, because when the EBA is withdrawn, the market is not closed in the least. Moreover, there is so far no suspension of goods exported from Cambodia either. The Royal Government has been seeking ways to offset and facilitate investments in our Cambodia. In addition, the good point is that we are no longer dependent on the scheme. Nowadays, there is no pressure forcing the Royal Government to act in compliance with it at all.
At the end, the Senior Minister wished the meeting attendees the four gems of Buddhist blessings--longevity, nobility, healthiness, and strength--and he said to the commune councilors, we will vote for the Cambodian People's Party to further win and for the sake of maintaining peace and continuing development and progress, because our party has long-term task of national restoration.
