
His Excellency Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, held working talks with a delegation of the Asia Horizon 2020 Association from France, led by its president, Dr. Robert Andrei, at the National AIDS Authority headquarters on the morning of January 23, 2019.
At first, His Excellency the Senior Minister expressed welcome to the working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia paid by the doctor, the president of the Asia Horizon 2020 Association, and his delegation. He also expressed profound thanks to them for their support to the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Cambodia in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS and response to AIDS in the past.
He also extolled the joint program of cooperation between the Asia Horizon 2020 Association and the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Association, which has initiated educational training projects especially for women to prevent HIV transmission, as Cambodian women still suffer and are vulnerable to get infected by men.
For his part, the doctor, the association president, commended the National AIDS Authority for having fulfilled its role as multisectoral coordinating institution in the effective and successful prevention of HIV spread, thereby bringing down the transmission rate to lower levels.
The Asia Horizon 2020 and Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Associations requested support from His Excellency the Senior Minister, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, for the initiative of legal training project, aiming at assisting efforts in the protection of women from violence, especially women victims of sexual violence, with the participation of lawyers of the Kingdom of Cambodia and of France.
His Excellency the Senior Minister responded by offering his support for the above-mentioned project, since sexual violence is a main reason hindering women from protecting themselves 100 percent from HIV transmission. The National AIDS Authority would continue to support and assist the two associations as well as further cooperate with them to enable women at risk and vulnerable Cambodian women to have better knowledgeable and ability for self-protection from HIV.
