H.E. Senior Minister presided over opening ceremony of Country Dialogue Workshop

At Himawari Hotel, Phnom Penh, on the morning of January 18, 2017, H.E. Ieng Mouly, Senior Minister, Chair of the National AIDS Authority and Chair of the Global Fund Country Coordinating Committee has presided over the opening ceremony of a dialogue workshop on the Global Fund country programs. The objective of the workshop was to inform on the decision of the Global Fund Board (Geneva) for granting a new financial assistance to Cambodia for the project period from 2018 to 2020, precondition and condition required for recipients countries. The event was also set to discuss among Government institutions, Development Partners, representatives of high risk population groups (HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria) and other stakeholders to examine in detail on prioritized objectives and intervention activities of proposing projects fund request with the allocating grant of 98 Million USD for the above period. It should be reminded that The Global Fund has provided to Cambodia financial assistance of 415 million USD in which 253 million USD (fifty percent) for combatting HIV/AIDS, 147 million USD for malaria and 50 million for TB and 32 million for Cambodia health system strengthening project. Currently HIV/AIDS project financed by Global fund has covered treatment for 58 000 patients while the Royal Government of Cambodia has contributed national budget of 3.7 million USD to purchase ARV drugs for the period from 2015 to 2017 and other 1.6 million USD to hire contracted staff working in the Global Fund Projects. H.E. Chair has advised workshop to try to find compromise for improved and reformed facilitation arrangement and implementation procedures by all stakeholders (project implementers and donors) to maximize projects outcomes and impacts with flexibility and based on Cambodia context and given timeframe.
