Lok Chumteav Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An Presides Over World AIDS Day

On the morning of December 1, 2016 at Chaktomuk Conference Hall, Lok Chumteav Men Sam An, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Relations with the National Assembly and Senate and Inspection, and High Representative of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, presided over the commemoration of the World AIDS Day that the Kingdom of Cambodia has regularly held with the world to evoke memories of the HIV spread and epidemic and impact on the life and well-being of the Cambodian citizens as well as on the socioeconomic status of Cambodia.

The event was attended by representatives of the Royal Government, legislative institutions, diplomatic corps, especially by His Excellency William Heidt, ambassador of the United States to Cambodia; Ms. Marie-Odile Emond, director UNAIDS Cambodia; development partners; civil society organizations, and representatives of the people living with HIV and being affected by AIDS.

His Excellency Senior Minister Ieng Mouly, Chair of the National AIDS Authority, presented Lok Chumteav Deputy Prime Minister and the meeting with a concise report on the situation concerning HIV epidemic, achievements attained by the Kingdom of Cambodia, and varied challenges in the fight against and response to HIV spread in the Kingdom of Cambodia for their information and requesting high recommendations from Lok Chumteav, the representative of the head of the Royal Government.

Lok Chumteav Deputy Prime Minister, as the high representative of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Decho Prime Minister, expressed commendation, congratulations, and thanks to the National AIDS Authority, Ministry of Health, development partners, aid donors, and specifically by the United States, Global Fund, civil society organizations, and compatriot citizens living with HIV, for their concerted efforts in offsetting shortfalls and assisting the Royal Government in the fight against and response to AIDS in the past. She also offered encouragement to the World AIDS Day, 1 December, to forge ahead to achieve the objective of stopping HIV contagion by 2025, under the slogan, Early Blood Test, Early Treatment Towards Ending AIDS.

Lok Chumteav Deputy Prime Minister also called to mind that the agenda on the fight against AIDS to reach the objective of halting HIV contagion by 2025 was not that easy, specifically in a new context where we have to step up our attention to ensuring effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.

Lok Chumteav Deputy Prime Minister advocated the concerted sharp resolve to overcome all manner of obstacles staying in the way of our intervention, especially to strengthen human resources management, mobilize local resources, and use new technology and tactics with high sense of responsibility, from the national down to subnational levels.
